Discover how the philosophy of butsu-ke-honban—diving straight into the real thing—inspires Weltner Interiors. Featuring a desert-inspired project, new service offerings, and seasonal favorites.

Beginning Without Rehearsal

Butsu-ke-honban is a Japanese phrase meaning “going straight into the real thing without rehearsal.” I set this as my intention during a recent yoga retreat and decided to do the same in my creative work—starting without overthinking.

This first edition of our journal is a space to share what inspires my design process, what we’re currently working on, and a few personal favorites that are bringing joy and creativity into daily life.

Design + The Desert: Inspiration from Civana, Arizona

Recently, I had the chance to attend a yoga retreat at Civana Wellness Resort in Carefree, Arizona, with my yoga studio, Power Life. The experience was as restorative as it was inspiring—especially the desert landscape.

The warm hues, layered textures, and serene stillness of the desert reminded me of one of our recent projects: Leawood Village Apartments.

Designing the communal spaces there opened up new creative possibilities and sparked ideas about what a Weltner Interiors-designed boutique hotel or social club could look like. The project became a study in natural materials, approachable sophistication, and creating spaces that invite connection.
